Eat Surf Love will be screening in multiple festivals in 2025. We’ll be at the Maryland International Film Festival from March 20-23 and the Yellowstone Film Festival on March 20th. You can also find us at the Beloit International Film Festival in Wisconsin, on March 30 and April 2nd.
For those of you planning ahead, in September, we’ll be coming to the Healdsburg International Short Film Festival.

Eat Surf Love was selected as a “film worth freezing for” by the Anchorage International Film Festival (AIFF). The AIFF is Alaska’s premier event for independent filmmakers, “showcasing bold, thought-provoking films that challenge perspectives and push creative boundaries.” and was selected one of the top 25 coolest festivals in the world by MovieMaker magazine. We were honored to participate in the “Strange Love” shorts program at the Anchorage Museum on December 8, 2024

We posted excerpts from the 10/15/24 live broadcast including why we always, but especially now, enjoy romantic comedies, the California baseball rivalries, and the filmmaker’s love-hate relationship with San Francisco.

Bay Area film, shot on iPhones by first-time filmmakers, to have California premiere at San Francisco Festival.

Santa Monica, CA, October 11, 2024  –  After a sold-out premiere at the Ashland Independent Film Festival, Eat Surf Love, an ultra-low-budget romantic comedy, returns home. Starring Tyler Ritter (Painkiller), Molly Wood, and Laura Yumi Snell, the film depicts a writer and a surfer navigating the murky waters of a first date, while a podcaster tracks their “meet awkward.”

Preview audience and Oakland resident Beccah Rothschild said, “I related to the film. I loved the vulnerability. This film’s for anyone who has ever gone on a date, lived in San Francisco, or had hopes for love.”  

Producer Mayra Padilla reflected, “The film is about connections. The ones we have with ourselves; with each other; and with the worlds we inhabit. Making this film helped me rediscover what I love about San Francisco.”

PRESS RELEASE: Indie Rom-Com Shot on iPhones by First-Time Filmmakers, to Premiere at the Ashland Independent Film Festival on October 5, 2024.

Eat Surf Love, a 9-minute short film will premiere at the Ashland Independent Film Festival on Saturday, October 5, 2024. The romantic comedy, set in San Francisco, stars Tyler Ritter (Painkiller), Molly Wood (Everybody in the Pool), and Laura Yumi Snell (Soho Shakespeare Company).

Actor Molly Wood, a journalist and podcaster, described her experience with the production, her first film. “I loved making Eat Surf Love,” she said. “It’s a film about people, place, understanding yourself, vulnerability, hope, and the human connection we all crave. It’s a beautiful film and I feel lucky to be a part of it.”
