San Francisco Gems: Check out a few (actually 23) of our favorite SF spots, with photographs by producer, photographer, and first camera Mayra Padilla.

Southern Exposure:  Hunters Point Shipyard Artists, home to 130 artists and frequent Open Studios; Marcella’s Lasagneria in Dogpatch, and Patricia’s Green in Hayes Valley.

Climbing North:
In Russian Hill, we love the local cafe and community to be found outdoors and inside at the  Nook (a film location). Our favorite farmer's market is at Ft. Mason, for both its spectacular produce and location, and not too far from the 360 degree view at Tunnel Top

Climb On: There are over 350 public stairways in SF, and we’ll just start with a few of our favorites: the painted staircases of the Hidden Garden Steps (Kirkham and 16th Avenue in the Sunset); the nearly 280 foot brick stairway of the Greenwich Street Steps in Telegraph Hill and the possibility of parrot-watching; and the Vulcan Stairway, with its gardens behind the Randall Museum in Corona Heights.

The secret is out: We’re not the only ones that love the Richmond, which just made Time Out’s Top 40 Coolest Neighborhoods in the world, with its indie shops like Green Apple Books.

Did someone say cool? Four of our producers have each been a part of LitCrawl, the annual night where readers and writers take over the Mission District telling stories everywhere from laundromats and nightclubs to Clarion Alley, with its ever-changing murals of public art, and Manny’s Cafe (also, a film location).

A little night music: Take in some jazz at Mr. Tipple’s Recording Studio, local musicians at the Rite Spot Cafe, dance at El Rio, or rock on at the Bottom of the Hill

Got to have park! You can have everything but the sun at Lands End, Ocean Beach, the Shakespeare and Botanical Gardens in Golden Gate Park, Mt. Davidson, and Stern Grove.
